The word ‘chod’ means “cutting through.” Our habit of attachment and clinging to a self give rise to causes and conditions in our life which result in suffering. Chod practice is a skillful method that enables us to let go of false notions and beliefs regarding the inherent existence of appearances. By practicing Chod, we liberate ourselves from the four maras, and come to understand the emptiness of all appearances including ourselves.
