2026 Losar at KKC Vancouver

The year 2026 in the Tibetan calendar marks the Year of the Fire Horse — one of the most dynamic and spiritually charged years in the Tibetan and Himalayan astrological cycle.

In Tibetan astrology, the Horse symbolizes freedom, endurance, and forward momentum — both physical and spiritual — and is closely linked to the element of wind (Lungta). The Wind Horse is often seen on Tibetan prayer flags, carrying the wish-fulfilling jewel sending prayers and good fortune throughout the universe. The element of Fire brings transformation, purification and illumination.

It is believed that the Fire Horse year, which will not occur again for 60 years, brings the energy of movement, transformation and renewal at its peak. It is a time to shed old patterns, burn away past karma, and ride the “wind of change” toward higher consciousness – seeing that one’s inner fire must be directed toward meaningful action.

Mahakala is considered to be an emanation of Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva of compassion. It is believed he manifested in this form to provide a more direct protection to practitioners, combining the aspects of compassion with the power to overcome obstacles.

Green Tara Practice primarily protects from fear and misfortune, and her practice helps develop wisdom and compassion. Through gradually appreciating, practising, and ultimately embodying Tara’s wisdom and compassion in this practice, we can make a positive difference both in ourselves and to others.

Riwo Sangchod (Smoke Offering) – As in any Dharma practice, "the general point of the Riwo Sangcho practice is to gather the accumulations and purify obscuration as the path to perfecting the genuine benefit of us and others by attaining the level of Buddhahood. In addition, the Riwo Sangcho practice is renowned as a particularly efficacious method for repaying karmic debts we owe that are ripening in our current experience as obstacles, illnesses, malevolent influences, and the like." by Lama Zopa Jigme
